I just bought a light box today. I have recently acquired a couple of customers who are selling items on their websites, and they need to take good quality photos. The one I bought comes with 4 different color backdrops, built in lighting and a cell phone tripod. I bought it on Amazon, and reading the reviews, I am confident I bought the best light box for the job.
One of my clients already has a website, and the person who took the photos for the site seems to have basically walked around the store with her iPhone and took random pictures. She did not stage her photos, and she didn’t use a tripod. If you were to blow up the photos, they would be very blurry. You simply cannot take a professional quality photo without a tripod. Taking photos with a phone is fine. In fact, many phones are higher in megapixels and have more features than some expensive cameras. But trust me on the tripod.
Another of my clients takes her own photos of her products, and does a wonderful job. I don’t know her secret, but I know she doesn’t own a light box. One secret I do know about her photos is that she stages them. Staging is almost as important as a tripod. Plus she uses the right lighting, number three of importance behind staging.
My husband and I are budding photographers, and the first thing we do when we take a picture is the “pinch test”. We look at the picture on our phone and put our pinched fingers on the screen and spread our fingers out to make the photo zoom in. If the photo is still clear after zooming in, then we know it is a good quality photo. Otherwise we erase it and take another one.
You can take the time to learn the ins and outs of photographing the items you want to place on your website or promotional material, or if you don’t have the time, you can hire a photographer. Be prepared to pay big bucks for whoever you hire. Photographers can be very expensive.
Which brings me back to my light box. This box will allow me to take the kind of quality photos that will make your website look like a pro did it. But the price I charge to take your pictures is definitely not pro rates.
Remember, I am in business to help small and startup businesses succeed, and I know that many of you don’t really have the option of hiring a professional photographer, but you can get the same quality work at a fraction of the cost from me. I am confident you will be fully satisfied with the results.
